Stag beetles (http://www.stagbeetlehelpline.co.uk/) are the UK's largest beetle. The species we have in this country is Lucanus cervus. The males have 'antlers' - enlarged mandibles. The females do not have the enlarged mandibles and are slightly smaller.

  • How much would someone have to pay you, what is the smallest amount you would accept, to stick your pinky in between those jaws?

  • Well, not that much really. They are built to overturn other male stag beetles rather than to defend themselves - I doubt they's puncture human skin.

  • Exactly how large are the Stag Beetles in the UK? :o

  • It varies. Generally around 6cm excluding 'antlers' in males.

  • I hope it wasn't too crunchy.
