Videos from the traffic flow study for the currently running reconstruction of the Aachen Interchange.
The Aachen Interchange is a heavily loaded connection of 5 freeway arms. Frequent overloading is caused by high proportions of heavy vehicles and high weaving volumes in several sections. Federal administration has therefore conducted a feasibility study for a complete reconstruction of the node.
This reconstruction started this year and will be finished in 2015. 10 bridges are added or overhauled respectively. The idea is to avoid weaving in general by overflying highly loaded lanes. Estimated costs are €75m . Roland Trapp completed the technical design of the interchange and for visualization of the design for the public these videos were created.
the software is so succesful at simulating what drivers on the roads would really do so it gives an accurate demonstration of of traffic impacts
