Holy Warriors In A Hostlile World, Standing for Christ in a Secular Culture -Bethel Baptist Church - Dr. Tim Sims

Seeing the world becoming more hostile toward Christ and His Church with each passing year? The world is not today, nor has it ever been, a friend to Christendom. John the Apostle wrote, "Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you." (I John 3:13). We are instructed by John not to love the world system which is clearly anti-christ. The secular culture that we live in is at enmity with Christ and His' Followers. It is continually hostile toward them. We are called and commissioned by God to be light in a dark world. We are to walk in the light of Christ and have fellowship with one another in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus. In order to do this, we must stand in opposition to this world system. We are exhorted to overcome the world by our faith. I Timothy 6:12 tells us, "Fight the good fight of faith..." and in Jude 3 we are instructed to "...earnestly contend for the faith..." We must commit ourselves as Holy Warriors in a Hostile World.
Standing for Christ in a Secular Culture will be our theme for 2011. Through exposition of God's Word we will increase our faith and be strengthened together as Holy Warriors. We will discover that we are truly in a spiritual battle that can only be won in the faith of Christ. We will learn how to armor ourselves and combat the principalities, powers, rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places that Paul wrote to the Ephesians about. We will come to a deeper understanding of the fact that this world is not our home and that we need to "...lay hold on eternal life." Standing for Christ is a daily commitment as we make daily choices. It is not just a public visible battle but more often, a private invisible battle against self and Satan. We will never be victorious in the public arena for Christ until we learn how to be victorious in our own private battleground saying no to sin and self and saying yes to Christ. Bethel Baptist needs to enlist in the fight of faith this new year and give ourselves to prayer, purity and the proclamation of Jesus Christ. May the Holy Spirit infill us to be good soldiers of Jesus Christ!
