This is a slide show I put together from pictures I took from my iPhone while I was in Beirut. I went there to paint a cafe mural with two other American ladies. Each morning we made our way to a very large building site consisting of many shops in the making, lining the circumference of the harbor. The site was filled with construction workers from Syria and Iraq in and amongst the Lebanese architects and us from the US. The working conditions were pretty dusty and dirty, not to mention the 96 degree weather...with no AC! However the richness of my experience there in Lebanon far out did the gritty environment of our 9-5. I was so touched by the warmth and hospitality of the Lebanese people. We felt safe there too. I didn't hear one siren the entire time. I was there just over 3 weeks. Even though there were many Lebanese soldiers with automatic weapons over their shoulders guarding the entrances to certain neighborhoods I never felt intimidated. The strangest juxtaposition being: the soldiers were drop dead gorgeous, with smiles that seem to eminate from a deep heart felt place...I like to say, we were melting. I spent the weekends 1 hour outside of Beirut in the Mountains of Mouktara with a beautiful Lebanese family. I hope to return one day and share some music as I also compose. Oh yes, the food was amazing!
