@EL90291 - for most wells, you drill until you hit the gray water-bearing sand, which will come up in your cuttings. For some desert or western wells, this may not be gray(ish), but will have a marked difference in consistency you can readily tell. When all else fails, retract every 5-feet of depth, and test for pooling/sustained flow rate.

How do you know how deep you have to go ?

Is this a homemade drilling rig or one from the shop? Can you send details/link?

How much depth you can drill ?

my dad got one of these things but we never got around to drilling with it. Now I can see it in operation.
How deep did you go?

If you look at the top of all drilling rigs you will see what is called the Kelly pipe. It is sealed by a series of O rings and uses roller bearings to allow the kelly pipe below to rotate but at the same time remaining stationary.

How do you keep the blue connection on top (where the water is connected) from spinning. The axle passes through it and spins since it is connected to the gearbox but the connection bit doesn't move. How come?
That was a 1/2 HP pump.

There are many manufactures found on the web. I rented this one. If you look around you can get more for your money. The well has been working for over a year. Not sure how much water it will provide. My 1.2 HP pump gave me 11GPM for 6 hours in October, the driest month in Dallas, Oregon. The well is about 80 feet deep.
