@DonRubinjo i don't understand the languange but I think it's like the science experiment where you cut the stem of a flower in half and put each half stem in different color water and watch the different color water climb up the stem. So I think(from the looks of the water, it's black, unless it's the barrel thats black) the color makes sure that the wood is fully soaked in water.
