Lexus IS 350. What does it take to topple the legendary BMW 3 series, the standard bearer of the luxury sedan class? Unfortunately for Lexus, it takes more than the first generation IS had to offer. However, a thorough redesign in 2006 has the Lexus IS poised to once again challenge the long standing dominance of BMWs Bavarian dynamo.

Welcome to our comprehensive Kelley Blue Book review of the Lexus IS.

Enthusiasts will find a lot to like about the latest Lexus IS. It offers aggressive styling, a luxurious interior, standard rear-drive or available all-wheel drive and, in its most powerful form, a zero to 60 time under six seconds. The result is a vehicle that can go toe to toe with the BMW 3 series yet offers a distinctly different driving experience. • Amazing car!!! I did my homework trying the BMW 335, MB C300, Infinity G37 and VW Passat CC. I got the Lexus IS 350 after all, $49,200 fully fully loaded.

  • I did a lot of research and even called mechanics and came to this. I got the IS350! I once leased a 2007 ES350 but there's more power on this IS350. Before deciding back on getting another Lexus I debated on getting a BMW 3 Series or used 5 Series, in the long run their parts and labor costs on any European cars will cost you more compared to a Lexus. The interior itself on a Lexus is much elegant than most European cars.

  • asian vs euro cars - such a hard choice...but lexus is making me lean towards the east.

  • @tsxws Yes my facts are straight. It's not just 2004, however.

  • @AtmelInAtlanta

Honda had bad rep with V6 autos made before 2004. Get ur facts straight.

  • @tsxws I have a '93 Accord EX. Looked into purchasing a later Accord. Bland, noisy, and underpowered compared to a Lexus (a 2006 Accord V6 maybe ok). The Lexus IS series tops even the Acura TL/TSX in terms of reliability & features.

Acura would be my 2nd choice. Unfortunately Honda doesn't exactly have a stellar reputation with automatic transmissions. :(

  • @bojassim00 IS300 was also known as the Toyota Alteza. Has a straight 6 cyl. vs. the V6 of the IS series.

Also, IS300 has a funky instument cluster, doesn't look as "high end" in the interior as the IS250/350, fewer luxury options, different color schemes too. IS300 was available in wagon version however.

  • Fail.....IF

  • what the differences between is350 & is300 ??

  • @wayland98 You are lucky my friend. $49,200 is roughly the base MSRP here in Canada even without 12% taxes!

  • @AlternativeUses And talking numbers like this is completely irrelevant. More times than not the driver can't extract that from any car anyway, so who cares? Average joes who think they are fast, turn out to be 1 second+ slower than magazine quoted times.

  • I would take my 96 Honda Accord LX over this anyday of the week.
