This desk is a great representative of the pre-1950 vintage class of furniture made in the USA. The value associated with this class of furniture is always enhanced when carefully cleaned and repaired or, when appropriate, completely restored.
Veneering techniques were popularized back in the late 1600's as a way of decorating wood surfaces. Veneering over wood was rarely done after the very early 1950's because of the rapid growth systems used to reforest or farm wood for use in furniture making because the veneers would tend to de-laminate.
