On February 10th, 2008 Yulia Townsend married her manager Glyn MacLean in the magnificent historical "Great Hall" at the Christchurch Arts Centre in a fairy tale wedding.

Yulia decided to invite fans to her wedding.

Prime time television documentary channel Television New Zealand's CLOSE UP promoted a special email address for viewer submissions to attend the wedding, along with stories about how Yulia's music had impacted on their lives.

Yulia read through hundreds of submissions from fans all over New Zealand. 168 were finally selected including fans who had suffered life challenges, personal losses and the death of loved ones.

Yulia sang "The Prayer" as a celebration of her marriage union and to send a message of hope to everyone who had suffered or struggled, that they might through prayer, find the hope and faith to overcome.

Possibly one of the most humbling experiences of the wedding was when artist Glenis Thomas presented a beautiful hand made, ornate heirloom piece, a faberge style egg which contained the wedding rings. Yulia keeps this by her bed side and places her wedding an engagement rings in the egg each night as a special keepsake.

A humble pensioner and widower, Glenis used her air points to attend the wedding and put her last savings into the making of the heirloom piece that she hand made for Yulia. This moved Yulia and Glyn to tears.

Fans and sponsors went out of there way to contribute to make this a fairytale wedding. A special link will be placed on www.yulia.co.nz recognising the 168 fans and the sponsors who attended.

Yulia responded to the gift of Glenis Thomas by buying a special Egg Art egg for handcrafted for Glyn's mother and her own mother Galina for mothers day 2008, "Paying it forward".

The relationship with Glenis has blossomed.

Yulia & Glenis are currently working on an exclusive range of handcrafted Yulia branded ornate heirloom "Egg Art" to be made available through www.yulia.co.nz

"..at Yulia's cost, meant that Yulia provided for the catering, management, infrastructure and organisation... the approx 250 guests (including 168 fans) came from all over NZ and paid for their own travel costs to be there."

Also note: special thanks to Christchurch Arts Centre for sponsoring the Great Hall as a venue, supporting fans to attend the wedding.

  • very nice song..

  • incredible, she sing English and also Italian O_o, with mistake in italian but the pronunciation is perfect

  • @Xeresa18 I think it's hard to judge without knowing the circumstances. As a talented singer, it would be odd not to have singing at her wedding, but who could make the song as beautiful and meaningful as her? Perhaps it meant quite a bit to Glyn to have her sing the song in their special moment.

As a singer myself, I think my issue would be whether I could hold it together to perform it well in the moment. She did beautifully!

  • What a beautiful performance and it's so awesome that you sung at your own wedding! What a perfect song you sang!!! I could tell it came straight from your heart. You and Glyn are so beautiful together, and you are two amazing people! I'm so lucky to have friends like you! You gave me inspiration!!! :)

  • @Xeresa18 because she chose to do this and i think it's lovely.

  • another talented Russian girl in New Zealand. We love you, darling!

  • It is beautifully sung, however, if it were my wedding I sincerely doubt if I would start warbling in front of a live audience to what should be a special intimate moment between myself and my groom, and our family and friends.

She is a wonderful singer, but the vibe was more of a performer singing in a wedding gown than watching a bride cementing her love. Why didn't she record the song before the wedding and have it played during the ceremony?

  • Flawlessly beautiful!!!!!!! Perfect, perfect pitch!!!!!!!!!!!!! Breathtaking!
