HEALING HANDS is the name of a new video that recognizes the efforts of Borgess associates. The video depicts Borgess hands at work and is set to the upbeat song appropriately named "Through Your Hands."
"Making every patient visit, every visitor interaction as positive as possible is the standard of excellence for all of us," said Paul Spaude, President and CEO of Borgess Health. "It's important to remind all associates how our collective efforts impact this standard.
"With hands of surgeons, nurses, housekeepers, maintenance professionals and scores of other associates, the Borgess Healing Hands video captures our mission of caring, the link we have with each other, and the positive spirit of Borgess Health," Spaude said.
The video contains short clips of Borgess associates doing their work. Many associates are recognized, but many more are only seen through close-up images of their hands. "Outstanding individual and group efforts are often lauded within Borgess," said Tom Comes, Marketing and Public Relations Director, Borgess Health. "This video applauds everyone. Most importantly, it praises the significance of the Borgess team.
Everyone is important to the overall patient experience
"When I recently met with members of a support department I stressed how vital their work was to the overall patient experience," Comes said. "Deep down, members of this support department knew that nobody else within Borgess could perform their duties without them. But it's a thought that sometimes gets lost during the hectic workweek, when routines and critical tasks can dominate one's mindset.
"On occasion, we all need a reminder of how special and complex providing health care is, and how well
we are performing," Comes said. "Healing Hands attempts to achieve these goals." Healing Hands was filmed in concert with the creation of other videos, including an updated Borgess Health New Employee Orientation video and a new Virtual Tour of Borgess Video. Some of the scenes are interactive
with the other videos.
The first reviews of Healing Hands are very positive.
"Service of the dear neighbor with gentleness, peace and joy is the founding spirit of Borgess, and that is the basis for this video," said Sr. Betty Veenhuis, CSJ, Patient Visit and Values Liaison. "As Sisters of St. Joseph, we are grateful for the healing hands that continue the health ministry initiated by the 11 original sisters 121 years ago."
"It made me proud to be a part of Borgess Health."
"I was one of the first associates fortunate enough to see the video at an Exceptional Performer Awards ceremony," said Linda Young, MSN, RN, Administrator and Chief Nursing Officer, Borgess VNA Home Health & Hospice. "It was inspiring and once again made me proud to be a part of Borgess Health." Filming was produced through Borgess Marketing and Public Relations in concert with Lawrence Productions.
"I've brought my parents from Battle Creek to Borgess Health for crucial, emergency health care," said Regan LaMothe, a writer and producer who currently lives near Grand Rapids. "I've walked the halls, met countless associates and have been impressed by what the Borgess Health Ministry provides.
"I've also produced videos for companies throughout the U.S. and I must say that Healing Hands is different because Borgess is different from most organizations," LaMothe said. "Borgess embraces modern expertise and also doesn't hesitate to express as an organization the meaningful, eternal truths."
LaMothe chose the music, "Through Your Hands," written and performed by John Hiatt, an American rock guitarist, pianist, singer, and songwriter.
"John Hiatt performed to a capacity audience at the State Theatre in Kalamazoo earlier this year," LaMothe said. "This song is the perfect, cheerful, almost poetic-like accompaniment for the video. The lyrics emphasize how 'the doing of deeds' is crucial in life, whether it is at home or serving patients at Borgess Health. The refrain says it all: 'You will move mountains through your hands.'"
