So... when testing the latest 2 engines just before sending them to customers, i find it again frustrating to discover how much the performance spread varies. 1600 rpms vs. 1400 rpms... The engines were built side by side, all cylinders and switches modified as good as i possibly can make them, components picked up randomly before put into the engines, yet we still see a 200 rpms difference. :(

  • I'm not an expert in flows, but as i can see, the cylinders got different pressures (in 1 engine), cause of resistance on the T pieces, and the different (total) lenght of tubes. It's just a theoretical suggestion, don't know if it makes any different in practice, but i think it would be more efficient if the path of the air would divided by 2 at each junction like: 1 => 2 => 4 (and =>8).

If you have a precision pressure gauge you can check the actual pressures at the different cylinders.

  • @HUNLac5 I did some testing with equal length tubes, and there was no difference at all. Lego pneumatics aren't the most precise to begin with and at such pressures always leak a bit, so it all equals itself out.

  • Hey Alex, long time no speak :-)

I'm sure you will have, but have you tried swapping the speed-computers over?

    Hope you're well,

    Simon

  • @spamsac of course. But when running you can even hear/feel the 200 rpm difference. Not in power but pitch, that doesn't come over very good in the video.

  • If you are selling them, sell them as two separate models. Standard and high performance... (take out twice the money for the high rpm ones)

Thats what Intel and AMD are doing with their processors... ;)

And with a little tweaking from the end user, you might get the same performance, from the cheep model, as the high performance ones..

  • @ricande I don't roll like that.

  • @HUNLac5 so the first cylinders running on higher pressures then the ones "at the end".

Ok, there would be more tubes, but at least i'm sure the engines would run even smoother!

  • Looks like an engine you could use to replace a Dodge ram's engine with :)

  • can you make a video in which you explain how they work?

  • i finally got mine to work but its a shame i dont have an air compressor :D
