Passing Clontarf Dart Station the other day I could see where bushes were trimmed giving a view of the Traffic School. I don`t know if its still in use but this short clip shows how it was in the 70`s
I remember going to this place on a school trip as a kid. It's such a shame that the council closed it down. It was a great concept, teaching kids about road safety and making it fun for them at the same time.
Did this in the early 70s on a Belgrove School trip. I can rember having a go on the cars I think the whole lesson only lasted an hour. I was back there last year and the whole thing has been wiped out ! but I still have the memory.
Remember being brought here as part of a Belgrove school trip, we had such a laugh that day! I believe it's gone now, such a pity. Every child should have access to facilities like this across the country.
Love it, remember it well. One of those great days out with the school. The novelty was just brill. Always a fight over who got the bikes and who was lucky enough to get a car. Love to have let my kids do it.
Tec, do you (or anyone) have the Video we were shown before we all got to the best bit. I think it was Bill Goulding in one of those Beige leather jackets with strips hanging off it!. There was a chorous.... la la remeber the rules of the road, always look... .. Anyone remember or have?
I pedalled around that very course many a time in primary school, but all we did was crash into each other at high speed and see how many of us could go over the roundabout at one time without the teacher noticing! Good times! It must have been just before the center closed down.
I was at a meeting in East Point a few weeks back - if you get off the Dart in Clontarf and take the pathway towards East Point you can walk through the Traffic School. It seems to be all there and would take very little to clear it up and get it running again.
Beside it there is a disused running track which looks to be in ok condition. In these days of childhood obesity problems perhaps we should be getting these facilities up and running again.
