Did you find out what was the knocking sound was? Thanks!

  • @bongborin I think it was an exhaust leak on #1 on the exhaust manifold, but never found out since the car was rear ended and totaled

  • it sure is! I've been red lining this baby all day every day and it's been almost a year and it's still running strong lol

  • Seems like your problem might be a bit simpler,

it might be the TVIS butterflies flapping. Turns out its a common problem on the 85-86's.

  • I think it just needs a valve lash adjustment cause since its only making the knock at idle that usually means something in the valvetrain is off cause when it starts reving the valves will naturaly get adjusted with compression and there will be less or no sound.Actual rod knocking would get louder as revs increase the same with piston slap and spun bearings.

  • Doesnt seem like a rod knock, shouldnt it get worse when the engine rpm is raised if it were a rod?

  • ERES UN PINCHE NACO JODIDO POR ESO TIENES MOTORES VIEJOS. PENDEJO JODIDO MUESTRAME TU CARA MARICON Y VAS A VER QUE SE SIENTE AMAR A DIOS EN TIERRA AJENA

  • @bongborin

Thank you. I did a compressions test on all four cylinders (from 1-4) and the it show 161, 161, 147, and 161. I disconnected the TVIS vacuum hose, but the noise is still there. It's loud., The noise is about 80-100 dB. We removed the valve covers to check for worn camshaft, but it's okay. Now I think it's the timing belt tensioner.

  • i had that problem too i had to overhaul the entire motor. but my motor has 197xxx miles too

  • spun bearing..not rod knock..yet! lol!

  • rod knock, you will need a rebuild bro..
