Just bought a 1986 Ford Ranger with the rare 2.3 Turbo Diesel. Truck has been sitting for 10 years! NO JOKE The tags ran out back in 1998 and it still had a full tank of fuel. (99 cents/gallon) But i pulled it down the road and it fired up! I have the timing belt cover off to make sure the timeing belt wasn't going to break before i started so its exposed and i have the alternator off. Anyone have parts i would love to buy some. Enjoy!
The 2.3L Turbo Diesel engine came in the D50 Dodge (Mitshibishi) 1983 - 1986, only three years. I bought mine new at Beatrice, Nebraska new in 1984. Consistently received 26 to 30 miles to the gallon with manual 5 speed transmission. Rumor had it Mitshibishi did too good of a job in building this 2.3L and couldn't sell enough parts, so it got scrapped after three years production.

Diesel Rangers:
1983-1984: Mazda-Perkins S2 (variation of Perkins 4.135), 2209 cc, 59 hp
1985-1987: Mitsubishi 4D55T, 2346 cc, 86 hp
This Ranger is a 1986 model, and the engine under the hood is the 4D55T.

@Z3CHYD not perkins thats the older ranger diesel, 86 87 and 88 had this Mitsubishi 4d55t turbo diesel, I have an 87 with this engine. I cant remember for sure but I think the perkins was offered from 83 to 85 and it was non turbo with only like 54 HP, while the mitsubishi had around 90 hp.
