It's actually very sweet, if you think of it as River seeing Simon falling for Kaylee, and while River is happy he's found someone who makes him happy, she's becoming less the focus of her big brother's world. Time to grow up, little girl...

It's a deleted scene from "Our Mrs. Reynolds." In context, it's probably one of the funniest scenes of all, actually. You should check it out.
