the fact is that the US senators received money from JEEP company to make lobby in the senate , aproving a series of laws that would prevent that the land rovers more precisely the defender floded the market once that the jeep CEO's saw the defender particularly as a treath to their market once that such model in particular have a few advantages such as aluminium body , without mention that the Land Rovers owners where atempting to introduce in the US market the defender with the 300Td engin
@calebbrtn In 1997 the US govrnment mandated that all vehicles have airbags. Since the Defender does not have airbags and Land Rover has decided not to install them, the Defender cannot be sold. Very unfortunate for us Land Rover enthusiasts.
no matter the land rovers, merc g gelanderwagen or the toyota land cruiser...the older the better...just look at the camel trophy...every model does it well...g4 in the other hand just full of atheletes' junk and not showing showing off off road capabilities of the car and drivers.....
You wouldnt get anywhere in a standard landrover, the modern ones have difficulty going accross grass. When all the eco shite has been junked, the engine rebuilt and unstrangled. The suspension needs jacking and re-shocking along with better rims and tyres. The original landrover 1,2,2A and 3 could do all you wanted and more from the factory and improved should you want to.The modern Chelsea tractors are useless, fine for dumb blondes on the school run,but nothing else as they come from the factory.
i saw a recent 97 defender, a aa yellow with 15k miles go for 56 thousand. that is insane. I own a disco and i would love to have another defender again.
Its weird how Land Rover was pretty much made to be the "Jeep" of Europe, but it''s so much its own vehicle to not be a copycat. The Series Landies were the greatest design, wonder why they don't send Defenders over to USA anymore, stripped down versions would sell like crazy, I'd think.
