Epic recreation of the events surrounding the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC and ending with the Battles of Thermopylae (The 300 Spartans), the Battle of Salamis and the Battle at Plataea. All battles that would lead to the rise of the Athenian Golden Age and the foundation of Western Civilization.

Background: The First War For The West [TFWFTW] is a 6 part documentary drama production covering a defining moment in history, the Greco-Persian War of 499 to 450 BC through the eyes of our hero,Kimon. The main part was from 490 BC to 479 BC. Most people know of this conflict through the 300 Spartans but they were only 3 days in a 49 year war. And Sparta withdrew from the conflict only a few short years later.
Kimon was the son of Miltiades, the general who beat Persia at Marathon in 490 BC. Miltiades' political enemies then engineered his downfall. He died in prison and Kimon inherited a huge fine. Kimon and his sister became destitute and had an incestuous relationship until eventually, Kimon married his sister to a rich noble and pays off the fine with the dowry.
Kimon was a drunk and a womaniser in his youth but matured quickly. He fought with courage at Marathon, Salamis and at Plataea. He marries Isodice after Marathon and has 3 children and becomes Commander of the Greek league, headed by Athens. He commanded the league forces at the battle of Eurymedon in 467BC, possibly the greatest victory by the Greeks over the Persians. He eventually forced Persia to the peace table in 450 BC. He died just before this.
He was very well regarded by all Greeks and while he was alive and leading the war against Persia, Greeks were largely peaceful to each other. However, once he died and peace was made with Persia, Greece degenerated into a civil war (partly sponsored by Persia) that led to the downfall of Greece. Kimon was unique in Greece at this time because he had a vision that rose above hundreds of years of petty division and inter city rivalry in Greece. He saw cooperation between  Athens and Sparta, the two most powerful cities in Greece as a tool to advance Greece. At the time of his death, Athens and its league of allies was arguably, the strongest force in the world.

The period is most significant to history because the survival of Greece went a long way to defining and establishing western culture, and was the start of the divide between the west and the middle east.
It was a story of heroism and sacrifice on both sides. It is probably the most studied period in history and yet many of the major events are still shrouded in mystery. For the first time we are going to have the full story of the greatest war of all time, every major event, every major detail, nothing will be left out. We will shed new light on some of the most iconic moments in history. We will subject some of the legends and myths of this period to the test of logic and see what happens.
The clash between Greece and Persia, the first clash between east and west, it was a clash between two peoples, two nations, two cultures, two government styles and a clash of two continents. There are so many what ifs about this period, so many turning points in history, that it is hard to start naming them, but one thing is certain, it was a titanic clash and neither side was going to back down. The Greek victory led to a golden age for Greece that produced a legacy that is felt everywhere in the world today, 2500 years later.
