Really nice work!

Enjoyed your video. I've watched all the spalling videos on youtube and you are the best I've seen....I'm waiting for your heat treating video...Thanks, Darrell

Loved the intro to spalling! You make it look easy.

@greennova1 - Nope, I live in Arkansas. I wish I was closer to that area so I could collect rock.
-
Do you live in the San Antonio area?

wow great video!! ummm at one point you said convexity, convexity is when it's round and bulges on the outside, concavity is when it dips in. i guess for next time..... thanks again man!! there aren't very many videos on spalling.

Yeah T Caveman, I caught that after the fact but then I figured people would be able to "mean what I know." If you haven't got a rock saw and you have to spall, it's good to know how to conserve your rock the best.

That would be a fairly large chunk for Edwards Chert. This stuff came from a housing development in San Antonio. I think there were plenty of big pieces there, but as a whole, I haven't seen many "Texas" rocks that size. I'd sure like to go back there.....

Great video Thanks!. About how much would you say your spalling hammer weighs? Does a heavier billet and a slower speed = less definded bulbs of percussion?
greennova1 2 years ago
I would say the hammer weighs about five pounds. I think you are probably right about bulb of percussion (B.P.) size vs weight and speed, but I am not sure. I know a soft hammerstone produces a smaller B.P. than a hard hammerstone.
