I think Grand Funk was not a critic's band. In this era (early '70s), there were bands and acts that were considered substinative like Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Simon & Garfunkel were the critic's faves. It's unfortunate that fun bands like Grand Funk don't get recognition as the garage band that made it big.
