Short documentary about the nineteenth century ballad Lord Franklin, and the sad truth behind the song. The music itself has travelled an unusual trajectory, with the melody originating from the South West of Ireland in the 15th century. It was picked up by the Elizabethans and enjoyed great popularity under the title Callino for two hundred years. It is best known nowadays either in its guise as the Irish rebel song "The Croppy Boy" or as "Lord Franklin", whose harrowing plight is the feature of this documentary. The air was refashioned yet again in the twentieth century by Bob Dylan, becoming the basis for his nostalgic ode "Bob Dylan's Dream".
