I feel like the sentiment in the US camp seems to always be that the United States is the only country in the world that can protect its own national interests. Every other country can only serve to help them protect these interests, and God forbid if the other country's interests are at odds with theirs, they are promptly labelled enemies or back stabbers or double-crossers. This self important and short sighted attitude will simply serve to make more enemies, and alienate friends.

I'd be the last person to defend the ISI's actions as of late, but I feel that criticizing Pakistan for tipping off HVTs before assaults is a little hypocritical on the US's part. The US state department tipped off its fair share of Pakistani agents (so they could elude European and even CIA raids) during the 70s and 80s while they were procuring sensitive material for use in the Pakistani nuclear program - this was of course in exchange for Pakistan's assistance against the Soviets.
