The Collaborative Cardiac Care Services involves contacting patients who have survived a heart attack or heart surgery, usually within 24 hours. Through check-ups, lab tests and telephone calls, clinicians help patients manage their coronary artery disease. Patients learn what to eat, how to quit smoking, how much to exercise and what medications to take. After undergoing heart surgery , Mark Kiryluk -- who also has multiple sclerosis and a family history of cardiac disease -- was enrolled in the CCCS. He is very fond of the program and believes that if it wasnt because of this, he would have had a second heart attack.
