  • What was Jerry Kennedy, or Jerry Lee's management team thinking when they held this song back from release in the early 70's ? This song would've been a standard before the decade was out! It's one of the more heartfelt and sincere things he's ever done. Someone else will unearth this song one day, and it'll be a huge holiday tune from that point onward. It's just another sad example of hundreds of bad decisions made on his behalf by those in control at the labels he worked at.

  • Thanks for the interesting comments. A single of this did come out (Mercury 73155), but in the SPRING of 1971. The station where I worked set it aside until after Thanksgiving, then it went into the Christmas music rotation. At least we have it here for all to enjoy!

thank you ! for the explanation.

The name of Jerry's child bride was Myra and , as you can see, there's not much difference between these 2 names.

Jerry still loves Myra very much and they have awondeful daughter by the name of Phoebe.

There's a better version of this song available on youtube, search for it and enjoy.

    Merry Christmas

  • who was Mary.. this is so touchng ! i want to cry.

  • I really love this song! Jerry can sing anything great, can't he?

  • Better than most "country christmas" songs I've heard. Too bad The Killer never recorded a full Christmas album in his career like Elvis did. I can imagine Jerry Lee doing a fine job on the rockin Christmas tunes like Jingle Bell Rock, Run Run Rudolph, or Elvis's Santa Claus is back in town.

  • @verycoolsound I had no idea that they had released that. I bought everything that came out in my hometown five and dime, and called the DJs daily to play it. I wonder how many DJs actually remembered to pull that single back out after Thanksgiving, and play it? I would guess not many. A half year is a long time in that business. Once more, I refer back to my original statement of how this was but another bad decision by Mercury.
