Its always best if you put the lead on earth first just incase, because if you do that in a exam they will fail you as it is dangerous.I know you are doing it on a dead circuit but they almost failed me for doing it

@88Ghillie *there. In my AM2 i've got to perform a similar test, but on a three phase board. The only circuit i won't blast in the first general IR test is the RCBO protected Ring circuit, that will have to be tested separately.

What if you cant take all lamps out how would you do insulation resistance then?As my brother in law has 24 lights outside the house and loads of down lighters in the house.
