BBC 1XTRA OPTS FOR LD PREMIUM LINE ARRAY!

Notting Hill Carnival 2009: The BBC 1Xtra truck is equipped this year with LD Premium VA 8 Line Array speakers and dual-15" Subs.

The 1xtra vehicle will employ 16 LD Premium VA-8 dual-8, two-way line array elements and eight VAPS-215 dual-15, fourth order bandpass subwoofers.

Robbie Barrow, system designer and sound engineer for the 1xtra truck in 2009, settled on LD Premium after Ben Millson of UK distributor Adam Hall demonstrated the system at the firms headquarters.

The first thing that struck me was how loud it was, commented Barrow. Ive heard a lot of systems and, as I said to Ben, straight up, Im very impressed. Notting Hill carnival requires a lot of bass and, although we only used dual-15s on the test, I think it provided enough. I can add some 18s if I need to. LD Systems might be a small player at the moment but they know what theyre doing and, for the money, their speakers are excellent.

The Notting Hill Carnival is one of the most popular street fest in the UK, the trucks drive around the streets of London and set the town in one gigantic sound system. So no, it's not a line array pointing at a wall, it's a parade truck being made ready for the party. Reading helps... :)
