These are beautiful wigs made in the traditional Japanese style, and the construction and look is quite different from European and American style lace wigs.Thank you for showing this rare limpse into an authentic japanse wigmakers studio! I love the kanzashi t shirt also!

@pescadoyventanas Most hair for wigs and extensions comes from peasants. The cost varies on color, length, quality, and ethnicity. The asian hair is the cheapest, because the hair strands are thicker, and it doesnt hold curl as well. They also have to undergo extensive coloring if u want anything but dark.Mid quailty is Indian or Indonesioan hair.Still dark, but finer hair.Highest is European hair from russia,E. Europe and switzerland. Most expensive colors:nat.blonde&reds.More expensive, grey and white

@AmberSumer sweetie, these are geisha & trad. Japaneese hairstyles. Its not meant for modern looks. These are the real deal & how geisha wigs should look. Memoirs of a Geisha was an extremly stylized and inaccurate film. You can buy the hair from commercial hairsellers like his and hers, and synthetic hair is a plastic fiber made in factories...

I've always wondered where the wigmakers get all of that long beautiful human hair...... Are there people who just sell their hair to them??
nice music! How did you get to film kabuki. Was it a practice session?

It was a rehearsal at the Japanese National Theater in Tokyo of Iemoto Yoshie Tachibana. This footage is part of a longer documentary we're making about Iemoto Tachibana, the grandmaster of the Tachina dance school in Tokyo.
