Both Tom Welling and Brandon Routh do justice to the Superman legacy IMO. I don't see anything from either of the two guys that detracts/disrespects from who Superman is, and I'm a picky fan when it comes to these things. If that labels me as a dumbass, then fine, but I say this as a fan and as someone who has seen both Smallville and Returns. Both guys do justice to the character (albeit in their own way).

This is from the first half of season one. The producers prior to getting a full order were leery about spending much money so they skimped on special effects. After the full order was picked up the special effects got a lot better.

Sorry but I don't think Tom Welling is a better actor than Brandon Routh. TW always plays the same character while BR has much wider range. TW looks more the part but BR acts better.

I have to agree he did a poor job but he also had a crap script to work with, and a director who had no clue what he was doing.... Routh also had the bad luck of coming along when this generation already had a Superman in Tom Welling who is by far the better actor of the two, and who's more in the collective minds as this gen Superman so Routh was doomed from the start.
