No we don't I don't ever under stand this it is confusing we just simply do Ix2=2 or something like that

That's like diagonal matrices. Since regular multiplication is identical to single row or column matrix multiplication, you find this significance.
Maths is universal. Methods are different, but if you look in the right places you'll see the absolute truths.

interesting trick. never seen it

i think this is supposed to be a way for people to do math that have trouble with numbers by changeing it into a spacial representation of the numbers
a shape that expresses the problem but no i use a calculator ALWAYS

This is really cool! I'm in the US and I'd probably cluster, do it the 'normal' way, guesstimate, grab a calculator, groan, or check out Wolframalpha. Then again, by the time one is in Algebra, being able to do multiplication like that is no longer the point and everybody uses a graphing calculator.

no. we probably do the same thing you do.

ha ha, we are pretty lazy...

21 x 13 = uuummmm lets see.... 20, 13's + 1, 13 = 260 + 13 = 273 or Um 10, 21's + 3, 21's = 210 + 63 = 273 It's called the NEA seems they come up with aaall kinds of BS ways to do things .... now now - not all are bad, and if a kid finds a way to get the correct answer EVERY TIME - then let them use it. But it seems to me, that this vid demonstrates a Krappy way to do math! from the US- have a GREAT day!

I'm from the United States and I've never seen this kind of math before. >_>
Seems kind of neat. Though it looks like you need a lot of space, and it takes longer than regular long multiplication. Though ultimately I think I'll stick with my calculator. ^^
ummm us westerners use something called a CALCULATOR

cool but would get quite cluttered when doing 987 X 898. Don't you think?
