  • 1 meg pots seem soooo bright... i know you're talking about a sound engineers standpoint, but what about a guitarists standpoint? has to feel good playing also... i know most soundengineers looove to add too much treble that's why i prefer to hear me from my own amp in stead of from the monitoring

  • @tapilaha Hey what ever works for you... every clip that I have posted on here was done using 1 meg pots..:) sound is subjective so if you like the higher frequencies removed from your guitar then use 250 k pots.. or add them and open your bandwidth to a new level and tweak it with your EQ for your perfect mix. The one meg pots just give you more options..:) Why limit yourself..:)

  • I bought a sd jb pickup for my strat, and I'm not sure how to wire it. I don't want a switch, I want both pickups in the humbucker to be activated when it's selected on the selector switch, can you help me understand how to wire it? Thanks, axle12

  • @axlesteel12 There is a great website called GuitarElectronics that will give you wiring diagrams to just about anything you need. Peace

  • I am thinking of putting 2 HB in my strat. Unfortunately, my strat has the narrow bridge (the one with 2 outer poles rather than the vintage one with 6 screws). Even with the original fender pickups the strings did not align with the neck pickup poles. The only solution I can think of is to install pickups with rails. Does your guitar have the vintage bridge?

  • Hi @theot71 Yes this guitar has the Vintage style bridge.. but don't fret the fraction of a hair the strings will be away from the poles.. seriously it won't effect the sound of the guitar.. as long as you raise the pickups so they are reasonably close to the strings you can use any pickups matched up with any bridge assembly.. If you don't want to change the bridge out then you can also just buy smaller spaced saddles that will fit your bridge.. ask your guitar store about them..

    Peace

  • @fenderilize The neck and middle pickups are just Tex Mex pickups. They sound surprisingly good for a basic run of the mill pickup.

  • @fenderilize Well in theory yes but in actuality it's all subjective & about personal taste. As I said I use 1 meg pots in all of my guitars.. strats.. teles.. Les Pauls.. and everything in between.. I have a sound engineer degree and the bottom line is a 1 meg or higher pot allows more bandwidth into the mix.. it's it's too bright turn the treble on your amp or mixer down. avoid using the guitars tone control as that only mutes out the highs. I remove my tone controls as well for that reason.

  • @christrealized wouldn't it be too bright for the single coil pickups if you use 1 meg volume pot? I have JB in the bridge with the 500K vol. pot but my neck and middle single coil sound too bright. 250K pot would be good for the singles but then JB would sound dull. I can't figure out how to work this. -.- What kind of neck and middle pickups are you using?

  • @fenderilize Thanks.. I am using 1000K pots I Meg pots.. I put them in all my guitars as it opens up the tonal spectrum significantly.

    Peace
