@flyingscrapyard i made this comment in response to a guy that said the numbers (ie 53,71,and 92) were the years they came out. and i hate to break it to you but mercedes did have several hands in the 60 series because i worked for detroit and the blocks had the mercedes benz emblem casted inside of them.

@robby844 You'll find the 92 series came out around 1974, I think the 53 series came out about the mid 60's, the 110 series around the late 40's early 50's and the 71 series in-line engines came out in 1938-39. As stated elsewhere, the series denotes the cubic inch capacity per cylinder. This is only for the 2 stroke stuff. There's also the 51 and 149 series not counting the EMD engines. The 60 series came out about the mid 80's, so Mercedes had no hand in their design. I believe it's Penske GM.
