Veolia Environmental Services North American has done it once
again with the revolutionizing launch of its latest technological
advance, The Gator™. This new product, 100% custom designed,
engineered and developed by an internal team of Veolia innovators,
The Gator™ is changing the way that black oil tank cleaning teams
approach their jobs, forever. With recent results, tank managers are
quickly looking to The Gator™ to help efficiently, more safely and
more comprehensively, provide black oil tank cleaning solutions.

A Better Way of Doing Things

For decades, the use of manual labor was the only effective method
of cleaning black oil tanks. Leaders in the industry today are coming
to agree that reliance upon human beings to enter tanks and
clean them is too dangerous, not to mention time consuming and
expensive. Attempts to improve safety helped, but never truly solved
the problems or satisfied the risks. This was attempted in large
part by the man-way, internally mounted, spray nozzle approach.
Mounted on the outer wall of the black oil tank at the point of entry,
the man-way nozzles are limited in range, must be re-positioned
several times to complete the job, and, most importantly, push
material away from the point-of-suction, increasing overall cleaning
time, increasing cutter stock requirements and reducing overall
efficiency. Sometimes only one (1) or two (2) man-way doors are
functional, further reducing the effectiveness of the man-way cannon.
Something had to be done.

The Gator™: How it Works

The Gator™ is a 1,200 lb., remotely controlled device that transforms
the limited man-way cannon into an unlimited sludge killing machine.
Using proprietary technology, The Gator™ transforms the fixed
man-way cannon into a convertible device and transports it into the
center of the tank. Once tank entry is made using a Veolia innovated,
proprietary ramp and The Gator™ is centered in the tank, the remote
operator has a panoramic view of the interior floor, ceiling and walls,
courtesy of a proprietary infra-red light and camera system, mounted
to the top of The Gator™. From its centered position, The Gator™
takes action by rifling a high-velocity stream of sludge-cutting solvent
nearly 360 degrees to penetrate sludge build-ups. Even sludge buildups
of more than 3 feet are no match for, The Gator™. The Gator™
quickly and efficiently propels sludge to the outer points of suction
with much less time, less cutter and less risk of worker injury
and exposure.
