Recording Diary - 13 / DEC / 2011:
After having had the pleasure of sharing the stage with these guys I decided on taking the opportunity to revise Stef's drum parts and record my own drumming to these tracks. 'Alternative drum versions' so to speak...

This is a very raw drum recording of 'Ripple Of A Tear'. It's a non-edited single take recorded without a click-track (the headphones are solely used for ear protection). I've uploaded this because I wanted to give an as honest as possible representation of my drumming. Even though there are some parts I'm not really happy about, I think this is a very decent and honest recording that gives you an idea on how I would play these Exivious tracks.

I'm planning on uploading professional recorded versions of 'Ripple Of A Tear' and 'Waves Of Thought' in the upcoming weeks. Contradicting this video, these will be completely produced drum tracks, hopefully recorded with more camera angles and without any mistakes... ;-)

This video will probably be deleted when the new version is uploaded, so enjoy it while it's online!

THANKS FOR WATCHING!
- Jasper

  • That extra-thin hammered crash sounds amazing. Have you gigged with it? If so, does it project well? I really want one but I wasn't sure how well it'd fit with rock and metal.

Hey man! Yes, I've used it live with exivious. Check out the live video of the show in Nürnberg, DE (it's on my channel). I can be really short about your question: Do NOT use it in metal music. It will not survive in the long run. Playing it as in exivious is the loudest I would ever play this cymbal. I've also used a 22" Byzance Jazz Medium Thin Ride for the same reason (great sound) but it broke. Check the Sabian list on my website for complex cymbals in really heavy music.

  • Nice done!

  • DAMN YOU! I wanted to cover this! Awesome cover though, good job man! keep it coming.

  • @jasperbarendregt

I suspected as much, "extra thin" just doesn't bode well in this case. I imagine if I buy one it'll be more for my own amusement than for gigging. Thanks a lot for the quick response!

  • good job, impressive skills!

  • @Aidan6496 He was a stand-in drummer for Exivious.. so I'm pretty sure they like it, haha.

  • You sick man.

Sound quality is impressive for no mics!

  • Badass stuff, dude. Great playing.

  • I wonder what Exivious think of this... I'm thinking Periphery or Meshuggah next!! :O
