bmw did not include a drain in the final drive housing on earlier models so disconnecting the drive shaft is a way to do that.

  • do you grease the splines if so what kind of grease?

  • @02wheels mine had so much grease i did not. would if it looked dry. i don't know what kind though it looked like a lithium based grease.

  • Was the drive shaft a pain to pull apart.

  • @shawnthale no, just give it a bump. Easier to line up the splines with the trans in gear putting it back together. The rubber boot is in the way making it a bit of a challenge going back together.
