In Seasons in Hell, Shropshire recounts how on the charter jet, after the Rangers were eliminated from the divisional race, Martin told him, "You know who cost us the pennant? That f***ing little David Clyde, that's who. Put that in your goddamn newspaper." Shropshire then comments that "Martin could just as easily have [blamed] Jim Sundberg because he didn't bat .415 and hit 45 home runs."
A few minutes later, Martin punched out the team's travelling secretary, Burt Hawkins.

Thanks so much for this post! I first read about Clyde in Mike Shropshire's book, Seasons in Hell. I've always wondered where he is now. I know he retired from a lumber company, but here, it looks like he's in some sort of baseball setting. I hope so. I hope somebody is giving him a chance to be around baseball and enjoy it on his terms. Nice photos too. If you can, please update us on whereabouts! Thanks again!
He is around high school baseball players and youth players teaching them to pitch. He coaches a high school tournament team in the summers and has been very successful. He is great at working with young players and could not ask to have a better instructor or friend to the boys.
