A video of Jay Z and Big Jaz that shows where Jay got his start in rapping. It's a shame that you never hear him spit real lyrics like this anymore. When Dame said he sold him out, I thought about this video and how he doesn't show support for The Nuwaubian Nation nor The Master Teacher Dr. Malachi Z York.

  • who's the guy in the picture at 2:46?

  • That is The Master Teacher, Dr. Malachi Z. York.

  • what makes you all say jay z lost his soul why ? becuz he is successful why cant a man prosper in the economic world and maintain his soul me my myself i am a very spiritual being but also strive every day to prosper in life economically we live in a material world w/o material you will not survive on this earth feel me

  • Being successful is fine, just as long as you don't forget where you come from. Jay Z is a great MC, still one of my fav's *Only his old stuff*, not this new junk. He even admitted to "dumbing" down his lyrics to sell to the masses, which to sell records is smart, but at the same time he lost a lot of his original audience. Personally I'll take the lyrical over the commercial. He doesn't acknowledge his past in his lyrics like he did in this video, which shows where he got his "Knowledge"...

  • you true for that but i think people go overboard by saying he sold his soul thats a very strong accusation cuz thats real shit and peole say things that they dont really overstand what they r sayin but if you listen closley every now and then jays light will shine like when he said truthfully i wanna ryhme like common sense..... and doing joints with dead prez he def could do more though

  • Indeed, it depends on how you look at it, when someone loses its roots, the "Life" if you will is lost. This is Jay Z's roots, in Nuwaupu which is always changing and I think he may get back on that path soon.

  • @Supreme19 I agree...its sad really. This video is what got me interested in the Nubian Nation/Nubian Islaamic Hebrews&the teachings of the Master Teacher Dr.Malachi Z. York(Al Hajj Al Imaam Issa)in the first place(that and the Video Black&Proud by Tragedy from the Intelligent Hoodlum album)I subsequently took my Shahaada @the Masjid on 25th&Jefferson st. n Newport News,VA and have "followed the Lamb everywhere hes gone" since.I often think the same thing-how can he just 4get his roots all 4 $?!

  • Great video.Black in the dayz! 1:Jay Z cant rap about ghetto and sale a million albums.2 you can became successfull but dont sell your soul!sad to say but that was the real jay-z on this video,im really surprised to know that he was schooled by dr malachi z.york, but i think i ovastand why they have locked him. Jay Z have sold his soul to stay alive.

    Killuminati...

  • @Supreme19 but most of Jay-z's biggest and most respected songs by fans and critics alike are when he did dumb down his lyrics...even though Reasonable Doubt was lyrically superior to any other album he has ever done...His lyrical content really has never strayed or changed...he has always talked about the high life...and as he got higher he brought his fans along with him...he never deserted his fans...it was more the other way around...

  • @yungflashyfly who are the 7 you put before Jay Z, just curious

  • jay-z voice is incredible...i think thats his real edge...

  • Wow - I had no idea.. I play sax, that is how i found this! so young...

  • and baby, let's face it

We bring havoc, flowin faster than rabbits, try to race it

The lyrical miracle writer, flippin until it drives you

Crazy, seek spiritual help from Jaz and Jay Zee

Standin in awe, you saw the best of em all, the rest will fall

Requestin for more, jaws stuck on the floor

These lyrics I pour, we saw, because we're greater

And we are the thiggida-thiggida-thiggida-the (the) originators

    Word

  • y'all know me

I wish you co-write, cause you'd pay me all the rhymes you stole from me

Leave you freeze in a minute, you gotta get in it breathin

Only when it lets, no sweat, I stutter-step with ease, and

Stop fakin, you're makin it, son

I'm breakin and breakin and breakin your tongue

Don't get caught perpetratin the cool ones

Figure we're bigger and badder and better
