Siggis has recently become one of my favorite "whole food" yogurt brands (in fact, today for breakfast I finely chopped 1/2 a peach and 1/2 a pear and topped it with a 6-ounce Siggis Vanilla yogurt plus 2 tablespoons Barleans Forti-Flax ground flaxseeds and 1 tablespoon hemp seeds---YUMMY!!!) Anyway, Siggis is made by incubating skim milk with live active cultures and then the whey, the water found naturally in milk, is strained to yield a super creamy, richly textured, ultra-delectable and luxuriously thick yogurt. The straining process also results in a yogurt with a uniquely high protein content. In fact, 6 ounces of Siggis contains 16 grams of protein, thats about 2 to 3 times more than your average yogurt. Plus, Siggis contains NO additives, high fructose corn syrup or artificial anything. Its ever so lightly sweetened with agave nectar, an all-natural sweetener that has a very low glycemic index (which means it wont spike your blood sugar levels and wont cause a surge of that dreaded fat-storing hormone, insulin). Another huge plus is that Siggis is made from grass-fed cows that are not treated with growth hormones. Grass-fed cows are much healthier than todays conventionally raised grain fed cows because cows are actually supposed to eat grass, not grain. When cows eat a defiant diet of grain they get sick (and sick cows need antibiotics!). Plus, in comparison to grain fed cows, grass-fed cows get more antioxidants, especially beta-carotene, which means the milk and yogurt from grass-fed cows is going to be nutritionally superior to that of grain-fed cows.
Siggis comes in 7 different delectable flavors: Plain, Blueberry, Orange & Ginger, Pomegranate & Passion Fruit, Acai, Vanilla and Grapefruit. Ive tried them all and they are absolutely deliciously decadent; they have a tangy, slightly sweet and very pure, fresh taste. You can buy Siggis at most Whole Foods Market Stores or contact the company directly at www.SiggisDairy.com For more ideas on healthy eating contact Ivy Larson at www.HotandHealthyLiving.com
