What you are seeing is called a "Sun Dog"...when ice crystals form in high cloud, sunlight is directed through the crystals producing this effect.
Sometimes you will get two Sun dogs, one on each side.

I'm not condemning any opinions here, but if the planet is close enough to view with the naked eye, than why not look at it through a telescope. To those of who think it is Nibiru, then you should have no problem spending money on a telescope. The world is going to end anyway, right? Please correct me if I have said something wrong.
