Using the rubber band and tying the ankles was the only way how I corrected my crisscross kicking generated by incorrect torso position, a lot of pain but it was worth!

I believe 1650 is a distance in meters of a long distance swim, and open water i believe it is either in a lake or ocean where you swim.

You did not invent that drill. it's been around for ever.
single leg isolation is the best way to get a better feel for the water, as well for strength and conditioning.
do that drill both under water and on top of the water kicks for maximum improvement
