Creature from the Black Lagoon is a 1954 monster film directed by Jack Arnold, and starring Richard Carlson, Julia Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno, and Whit Bissell. The eponymous creature was played by Ben Chapman on land and Ricou Browning in underwater scenes. The film was released in the United States on 5 March 1954.

Creature from the Black Lagoon was filmed and originally released in 3-D requiring polarized 3-D glasses, and subsequently reissued in the 1970s in the inferior anaglyph format (this version was released on home video by MCA Videocassette, Inc. in 1981). It is considered a classic of the 1950s, and generated two sequels, Revenge of the Creature and The Creature Walks Among Us, each a year apart. Revenge of the Creature was also filmed and released in 3-D, in hopes of reviving the format.

  • I remember in the early 80s when this was shown in "3-D" on television & you had to wear those ridiculous glasses w/ the red & blue frames. Haven't seen it since.

  • @Sassy5511 -BUT it's sportin' that new tech 3-D!!!

  • @angelzr umm it came out 58 years ago..

  • I just gotta go see this...when is it coming out?!!

  • GAGA SUCKS

  • God I love those subtitles

  • i saw this movie as a little kid in the 1970's.i thought the movie was great and fun to watch.i have the whole collection on dvd and it's really cool to watch them over and over again. the creature's theme song always scared me when i was a kid.richard carlson was like the go to guy for all these great sci fi films of the 50's and whit bissell was one of my favorite character actors.he was always good in westerns.

  • Great horror for the day.

  • Love This Trailer!

I just spent a great deal of time with all three of these movies turning them to MULTI-DUO-TONE COLORIZATION.

Plus Remastered sound into Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound and LETTERBOX.

But the multi coloring is AMAZING. Universal Horrors are all next. They are now brought to life in an amazing way. I'm loving them, I'll still keep my Black & White but it's great to have both now.

  • Why isn't my Papaw Cliff Poland given any credit for developing the 3-D filming procedures under water for this movie?
