  • the legendary British marine two-stroke, which was used up through the late 80s in Royal Navy lifeboats. Built much stronger than a traditional outboard.

  • You'll get the same result when you test it again in 100 years time!

  • @UKDefconWarnings these always leak. Owned about 3 over the years, U can change the petrol jet and convert oil ratio to 25 to 1. got a May 1971 Featherweight and it is so reliable I will not exchange it

  • Reliable wee outboards, it's just like when Woody Allen starts the VW in Sleeper :-)

  • that smile of satisfaction when the motor started was classic!

  • Yes that' the place. Some wag took the pin out of the outboard bracket whilst I was tied up at the quay. When I dropped the motor off the catch to put the leg into the water it went straight overboard. I remember I burst out laughing, must have been the beer I had drunk. Morale is ... always secure with a lanyard which is exactly what is written in the Seagull handbook. Still, 6 hours in salt water didn't the the Seagull any harm. It's natural environment. Ran just the same as before.

  • do you mean salcombe as in near kingsbridge in devon?

  • From what I can remember, starting them wasn't a problem even after 20-30 years storage. Stopping them was the problem.

Once dropped one overboard in Salcombe harbour. Waited for 6 hours for the tide to go out. Retrieved it, flushed the sea water out with fresh petrol, bit of wd40 on the magneto. Started and ran fine.

Had several, all with oil leaking down the exhaust leg. Ran for years like that. Never seem to do any harm.

  • Yep well i haven't had any problems with anything just the leek but it sounds not as major as yours. I will run it on the 10:1 mix until something major comes up. But still its a very strong and well built little motor!

  • Have the same problem, would like to know what it is tho

  • I had a 5hp Seagull on a beautiful clinker ply boat back in the 70s. Still kick myself for ever selling it. The engine was 100% reliable.
