Here's a video of my 75 Gallon Planted Aquarium Setup.

The fish are Neon Tetras, Glowlight Tetras, Bleeding Heart Tetras, and a couple Otocinclus. There are also some SAE's (Siamese Algea Eaters), a smaller Pleco, a Farlowella Catfish, and some Algae Eating Shrimp hiding in the mix somewhere.

This video was to show some people the tank that have been asking. It's not at it's best, but it's not doing too bad at the moment either. It is currently lit by 2 AH Supply 96W 6700K CFL's (I will swap it out for a 4x55W setup at some point in the future. The gravel makeup is a mix of various planted tank substrates including Aquasoil and Flourite. There is a Rex Grigg regulator and CO2 tank setup with a reactor under the tank supplying CO2 for the plants directly into the outlet of the main filter. The filtration is provided by a Rena Filstar XP 3 and a Magnum 350 Canister Filter. The ferts are mixed in dosed daily. For ferts I am using Plantex CSM+B for the Iron and Trace elements and a custom mix of KNO3, KH2PO4, and K2SO4. I am always tweaking the mix. Lately the tank has been on a medium maintenance schedule, so dosing hasn't been heavy for exceptional growth although you can definately see pearling in the video as the tank does for most of the day.

  • what is a CO2 system? haha sorry im into saltwater & looking to do somthing like this

  • @CI321 CO2 systems are methods of delivering CO2 to the plants in your tank. With this type of setup, you need more CO2 than what is being provided naturally. This take has a 20Ib CO2 tank with a regulator on a timer. This allows the CO2 to be delivered during the times of the day it's needed most. It's something that you will want to do a little research on before jumping into though. Search for CO2 Planted Tank on Google and you should find some great articles.

  • @FoutsNC i started a 75 gallon fresh water planted, i do not have a co2 system, but the plants seem to be doing fine

  • @CI321 The need for CO2 really depends on the amount of plants, light, growth, and such you are looking to attain. When this video was taken, the plants were about 60% filled in. Along with the CO2, I was dosing the tank with fertilizers daily, and supplying high amounts of light. Just keep an eye on your plants over time. Their overall health should tell you if you need to add some CO2 or not. It was the other factors that required it for this tank. I hope you enjoy your planted tank :)

  • @FoutsNC Ok, what are ways you can at CO2 to the system?, is it a tablet or somthing?

  • @CI321 There are several ways, depending on the needs of the plants in the tank. For a 75G, I would highly suggest a CO2 tank setup with a regulator and timers. plantedtank -dot- net has a lot of information on CO2 setups and planted tanks. Be sure to browse the forums to learn a lot about different setups and such. This tank had a 20Ib Co2 Tank with a Rex Regultor on a timer.

  • @XXGOLDENXXDRAGONXX Thanks for the compliments. If you are going to be doing a planted tank, I would HIGHLY suggest a CO2 system. You will also want to ensure that you have ample lighting for your setup and you will probably want to do some research on ferts too. I used a mix of Flourite and another sand/silt mix for my substrate. It's been a good hobby, but it surely has it's challenges :)

  • Great tank! I'm going to be starting up a 75 Gallon tank somewhat like your's. I want to have a fully planted tank. I have a couple questions... Should I use a CO2 system to boost growth? And which on your opinion is better sand or gravel for aquarium substrate and looks?

    Again the tank looks great!

    Thanks,

    Alec

  • Very nice set-up. Check out my low tech 75 gallon planted tank: Please Search : Fresh Water Angel, Tetra and Rasbora in You TUbe

  • absolutely amazing!
