i've done ALOT of magic tricks over the years and have learned that when dealing with mental magic and "predictions"...99% of the time NO MATTER WHAT a magician tells you, the numbers are NOT random, they are forced in a very discreet way. the card was most likely pre-made with those numbers. the entire trick of any prediction illusion depends solely on getting the audience to believe the words, numbers, whatever were chosen at random.

I saw David Copperfield do a similar trick, although the box was inside a second glass box, which was suspended above the stage before the show. Also, instead of scratchcards, there were car license plates inside. Pretty awesome.
