The Liverbirds (sometimes spelled Liver Birds) was a hard-rocking all-girl group, focused on rhythm-and-blues. They came out of Liverpool, England right around the same time as the Beatles, but inexplicably, (at least to me), they weren't as successful there in the UK. The hard rocking, tough looking Northern girls were quite revolutionary at the time when girl groups were supposed to be soft and demure. In 1963 they went to Hamburg, Germany, where they became quite popular. The group originally consisted of Irene Green (vocals), Sheila McGlory (guitar, vocals), Mary McGlory (bass, vocals), Pamela Birch (guitar, vocals), Valerie Gell (guitar, vocals), and Sylvia Saunders (drums). They
got together in early 1962 under the name the Debutones, before changing it to the more city-specific Liverbirds. Irene Green and Sheila McGlory both left the group before the remaining four Liverbirds left for Germany. Their single "Diddley Daddy" made it to number 5 on the German charts.

  • This is garage rock 60s. If you don't like it, piss off. It's freaking amazing to those who do like it, and if you are those who don't exactly appreciate it, then who gives a damn! We really don't care!

  • Another great post!

  • You know, I realise that this might not represent a historic milestone in rock or anything like that, but I would still rather watch and listen to this rather than the fake shit in the music industry today. Today, it's all about what you look like on video anyway, but at least these girls are not posing in front of the camera with plastic bodies and computer edited to hide their flaws.

  • Nice clip. Never knew they existed. BTW the audience seem to like them which is the whole point don't you think?

  • Its not exactly a high-water mark in the history of Rock, but it sure reminds me of what the early 60's were like. This is like looking thru a window into the past. Everybody was straight, drug free, square as could be, but good and decent mostly. Everybody wanted to dress 'nice' to go out, and you mostly got home in one piece with no drugging and very little drinking. I had a VW beetle and we'd cram 6 or 8 kids in it and go to the dance--it was fun, especially if your girlfriend was warmed up.

  • This is horrible.

  • You guys are all ignoring how tight the groove is between everybody sans the singing. That guitar work is hot.

  • Could their 'inexplicable' lack of success be attributed to their lack of talent, perhaps?

  • its aweful...or is it? i cant stop watching but i want to.

  • lol.. yeah.. cant make out a word.. very weak vocals

  • Can't make out a single word.
