Merrill's most formidable contribution to popular music is his writing and singing the original recording of "I Love Rock N Roll" with his band The Arrows in 1975. The song was later covered by Joan Jett, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and others. He has also been with the bands The Arrows, Vodka Collins, Derringer, The Lead, and Runner. Alan has made a lot of solo albums as well.
