the gear under my tuning peg for the a string is missing its teeth is there any other way i can tune the guitar without replacing the peg?

Nope, not true at all, I do it all the time, and have had ZERO problems with multiple guitars. In fact I've left the guitar with strings off for over 24 hours, and have had no problems. There are several different ideas on this, some people say yes, some people say no, I say no because I've had no problems with it. I take them all off to clean and polish...done this with acoustic, classical, and electric, and travel, ZERO problems...EVER
