  • What type of grease is that? Will any heavy duty lube work? I have a container of regular ball joint and u-joint grease? I pulled my hubs out and they were clean as a whistle---no lube of any form in them. The had no wear, and made no noise---How could they have had nothing, not even dirt inside?

    Any high temperature wheel bearing grease will work. When problems occur you will not hear any noise unless a bearing fails they simply will not engage or disengage. Water / corrosion is the number one failure for these hubs. If you take them off and clean them up periodically the hubs will last a very long time. Be aware the seals in the hub are not alcohol safe so don't use brake cleaner as it will cause the hub seals to swell and bind dial movement.

  • Most of these hubs are of similar design. There is no need to mark the Hubs prior to removing them the splines will match up anywhere what I usually do is put them in feespin before installing them to make it easier to rotate the hub while installing.

  • Just wanted to add my thanks for the videos on the locking hubs.  I've got a 99F250SD with a busted R side auto-lock hub, getting ready (in the morning) to pull the hub locks and install WARN manual locks, your video shows exactly how to get at them. Much appreciated!

  • Can I assume that the hubs on an early 90's f150 would be about the same in concept? Also when putting the hub back in , do you eyeball it or mark it from when you remove. Or is there a guide notch?

  • I'm definitely going to do this job now on my F250 4x4. You took all the mystery and concern out of it. I will of course make my own effort to note the exact ordering of parts but having your video is so incredibly helpful!
