    I came late to an appreciation of Doc's greatness, so it's only been a little over 40 years, but thank you, Doc, forever. Doc's with Merle now, renewed and singing, and our prayers are with those he left behind, for a little while.

    From the LP "The Watson Family" on Folkways FA 2366 as sung by Doc Watson with his wife, Rosa Lee Watson issued in 1963. The song was credited to be written by Rosa Lee Watson with a little help from Doc. Originally recorded by Frank Hutchison for Okeh Records in the 1920s as "The Lone Journey" possibly written by him or older of unknown origin.
