David Lean directed the finest film I have ever seen Lawrence Of Arabia and deservedly won the American Film Institute Award. Lean's films are literate and brilliantly made films such as The Bridge On The River Kwai and Dr. Zhivago and Passage To India.

If David Lean was alive today he'd be horrified at what is happening in the film industry today. Not only are they making sequels, which he warned against, but are going even further. Old movies are being re-made and re-made because there are few left in the industry with any new/original ideas. There are no innovators left.

The next time there's a writers strike, fire them all! Any damned idiot, including myself, could do as well.

:18. Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. They are more than just pretty faces who dabble in slapstick. I understand that they appreciate culture, and here they are saluting maverick epic filmaker David Lean. Chevy and Goldie in numerous internet pics have attended premieres of serious films. Anyone who thinks that Goldie and Chevy are idiots should definitely have their heads examined. After all, comedy is harder than the public assumes, just because it's so easy to watch and understand.

If you have my eyes, there are closeups of Steve Martin and John Candy, and at :59, distant background glimpses of Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn. It may not seem so, but these four comic greats have had (God rest John Candy's soul) to have a taste in the highbrow and literary. So if you think that Steve, John, Chevy, and Goldie have had relegated their tastes to only crazy comedy, think again. They're more intellectual than they could act.

Anyone with  a functioning brain( and any taste) has seen it all happening over the past 3 decades,at least..I'm very glad that other people are finally starting to realise what has happened to our culture/society.
