@ross817 It looks like this is just a script, as in, no debug mode needed. You could add it to your house (probably not as-is though, unless you want it to start being embedded in walls, which would be weird.

@ross817 Although you don't need land just to play around. There are sandboxes where you can build and script etc.

@ross817 Another thing that costs money, which AdeonWriter didn't mention, is land. If you want a permanent place for your buildings, you need to either rent from someone, or buy from LL (or other people, but you need to pay LL... I think). I personally rent a very small area, just to sell some stuff. The proceeds more than pay for the small amount of rent.

While I do gain considerable income in SL, I have never chosen convert it back into USD. I've kept it all within the world, as it more than offsets any of the many micro-transactions that go on in a virtual world, so I never have to spend real money.
I'm kind of confused about what costs money in second life. I know registering is free, but how much would I have to pay them to let me build something like this? Also, can I add something like this as a room to my house just to mess with people? Or, did you have to run second life in some kind of debug mode in order for it to let you do this?
I guess what I'm asking is, how much can I customize second life, and how much is it going to cost me? Because this scripting engine looks pretty fun.

@ross817 Building is absolutely free, and you're allowed unlimited inventory storage for things you've made for free. Uploading textures for your builds does cost money, but there's lots of free textures given out by other people that they've uploaded. Buying other people's content, wither builds, or avatars, or avatar parts, which can cost money. You can also easily sell the things you've made, which is how most people make their money, rather than buying currency with real cash.

Do you use a cam follower? As in your water reflection map thang, you had some pretty fluid cam rotations...free cam or something? Ive heard it mentioned alot as i run around in SL

@Begocer I'm using a 3D mouse of sorts, it's called 3DConnexions SpaceNavigator (normally used in 3D modeling applications to control the camera view or move around a 3D tool) but it works well in SecondLife too. It's like a suspended cap that you can push or twist and the camera does the same.
