On February 8th, 2010, at 4:14 a.m. EST, Space Shuttle Endeavor launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida in what was one of the last night launches of a space shuttle. After being delayed a day due to low clouds, the clouds finally cooperated enough for the STS-130 mission to allow for a spectacular night launch of the shuttle. This video was taken 3.1 miles north of the NASA Causeway on U.S. Route 1, south of Titusville, Florida, and was 12 miles away from the launch site. (28.57214N 80.79770W)

Filmed with a Canon FS100 digital video camera.

Description of this mission from NASA:
"The STS-130 mission of space shuttle Endeavour will deliver a third connecting module - the Tranquility node - to the International Space Station and a seven-windowed cupola to be used as a control room for robotics."

  • wheres the sonic boom?

  • @BMWM3GTRLOVER I'm not sure how far away the shuttle would be when it breaks the sound barrier. I was 12 miles away and it might be a few times that when it breaks the sound barrier. I'm not sure if it can be heard in the video. Starting at 1:04 you hear the liftoff sounds reach where I was and around 1:26 for about 20 seconds you hear some louder sounds that seem to be from the launch itself still, so the shuttle may have been too far down range to hear the sonic boom from where I was.

  • WOW!!! Almost like I was there! Thanks for posting. :)

  • Great video--nice quality camera. It was great when it "hit" the clouds!

  • Very nice footage - Nice job tracking, and nice camera too! - I shot the same launch from a little farther north. It was awesome to see the last shuttle night-launch. Thanks for sharing this!

  • When the shuttle flies through the clouds is one of the most beautiful sights i've ever seen. I filmed the launch from Orlando but your view was much better. See you at the last launches guys!

  • Amazing video. I'm hoping to catch one of the final launches this year. Sadly, it won't be a night launch like this, but still looking very forward to it. Thanks for posting.

  • Great video, really nice job capturing the moment. I love when it ascends through the clouds. I'm hoping to finally make it down this year to see one of the remaining launches.. sadly no more night lauches.
